One of my mostly-former coworkers is fond of the saying, "That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger."

I don't really think that's always true. Sometimes, sure. But other times, it may not kill us, but it does hurt us, beating us down into the ground, and continuing to kick us when we're down, over and over and over, and then leaving us weak for the next thing to come along and finish us off.
